Bull and Man: Unequal War
by
Ronald Beil

A ring is needed
For this unequal fight
A combination of lust, passion and fright

Magnificent Beast
Tough, agile and brave
Snorting, puffing, eyes in a rave

Mighty Bull
Glory of animal strength
Head, horns, hump, tail, the full length

Marvelous Beauty
Nature's domination of man
Bigger, quicker, hoof over hand

Diminutive Matador
Spangled, prissed and displayed
Strutting, strutting, then running away

Determined Mannequin
Facing a superior foe
Has tricks, weapons and forces that grow

Deceptive Man
With vicious swords and spears
Can sap the life blood when the Bull comes near

An ounce of blood here
A splattering there
A gouge, a prick
A stab after stab
A draining of strength
A life cut in half
Only now then,
Can the Matador laugh

The weakened Beast
Already half dead
Now evokes pity where once was only dread

The tormented One
Facing the many
Head now held low from tortures aplenty

No matter last thoughts
Or decisions he makes
Visions of victory, even glory are fake

Should he stop still
And give up the fight
Or keep being true to his animal lights

The Bull is defeated
But the game goes on
Man's winning embrace must be total and long

At last the war ends
With complete Bull destruction
Matador's success an artificial construction

A Bull and Man
Can fight many wars cruel
But the ears on the wall are all from the Bull.
